Prospective Postdoctoral Research Associate
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will contribute to developing and/or applying artificial intelligence, machine learning, and image segmentation and/or data science-based methods to address cutting-edge topics, including but not limited to disease diagnosis/prognosis, biomarker identification, and treatment prediction.

Required Qualifications:
- A PhD by the time of hiring in a relevant field. Relevant fields include (but are not limited to) Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Automation, Informatics, and Engineering.
- Experience in deep learning, machine learning, and medical imaging processing.
- Programming experience: Python, MATLAB, SPSS, Shell.
- Experience in working with a Linux workstation.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to self-direct work.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Supplemental Qualifications:
- Experience in bioinformatics.
Prospective PhD Students
Responsibilities:
- Independently undertake scientific research tasks and projects;
- Participate in core laboratory research projects;
- Engage in other related research activities within the university and department.
Application Requirements:
Applicants should be capable of independently undertaking research projects, passionate about scientific research, diligent, eager to learn, and possess good communication skills. A minimum of a bachelor's degree in computer science, automation, electronic engineering, informatics, mathematics, physics, or other quantitative sciences is required. Strong programming skills are essential, and a background in machine learning, artificial intelligence, or data science is preferred. Applicants should have a keen interest in medical image analysis and be willing to engage in related research. The expected start date is Spring or Fall 2025.
Requirements of UNMC PhD Program:
- Cumulative GPA (undergraduate, or undergraduate + master's if applicable): 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale). Non-U.S. grades must be verified by WES or ECE.
- English proficiency: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 80, or Duolingo 120.
- GRE: Not required.
Requirements of Wang’s Lab:
- Excellent coding skills.
- Experience in deep learning, machine learning, and medical imaging processing.
- Experience in computer vision or natural language processing.
- Programming experience: Python, MATLAB, SPSS, Bash.
- Experience in working with a Linux workstation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in computer science, automation, electronic engineering, informatics, mathematics, physics, or other quantitative sciences.
Additional Skills:
Highly proficient in medical imaging toolboxes/software including BIDS rule, FreeSurfer, FSL, AFNI, SPM, ANTs, ITK, c3d, SurfStat, NODDI, GIFT, CONN, GRETNA, SPSS, etc. Data management and/or data analysis in the medical area.

Prospective Research Assistants
Position Summary:
The position will work at Dr. WANG’s Lab in the Department of Neurological Sciences, collaborating with the principal investigator and research team to coordinate, develop, and conduct clinical research projects aimed at improving patient health, disease treatment, and quality of life in individuals who are aging or have neurological, psychiatric, physiologic, or other medical disorders.
The research assistant will support clinical research projects from start to finish, ensuring successful communication, coordination, regulatory and protocol compliance, and collaboration across a diverse, multidisciplinary team to meet project goals. The position requires independence, responsibility, accountability, self-motivation, strong communication skills, and the ability to complete detailed tasks accurately and with high quality.
The position will also contribute to developing and/or applying artificial intelligence, machine learning, and image segmentation and/or data science-based methods in medical imaging processing.
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience related to healthcare, laboratory, and/or clinical research.
- Highly proficient in medical imaging toolboxes/software, including FreeSurfer, FSL, AFNI, SPM, ANTs, ITK, c3d, SurfStat, NODDI, GIFT, CONN, GRETNA, SPSS, etc.
- Experience in data management and/or data analysis in the medical field.
